As Dr. Frank Rehley was leaving for his office, his wife stopped him. Dr. Frank being a sophisticated young biotech engineer, loved his wife more than anything. He did everything she wanted. This young doctor had a mutation in his eye. Both the eyes were of different colors. Trisha Rehley, the doctor’s wife loved his eye color.
She was fascinated by it. Being a housewife she had to stay home all day and she felt very left out and alone. So she decided to go to Frank and convince him in having a baby. Frank did not like babies but Trisha loved them. Frank was somehow trying to postpone the date. Trisha said, “It is enough darling. I want a companion at home with me. I want someone to take care of. You are in office most of the time. I want someone to be with me. Either you leave your job and stay at home with me or we’re going to the orphanage today.”
Trisha’s uterus was not capable of holding a baby because of an accident. Frank finally agreed. He said, “Okay my love. As soon as I return you and I will go and select a baby. Now I’m getting late I have to go.”
They exchanged goodbyes. Trisha was very excited and that made Frank very happy even if he was sad from the inside. Frank did the usual in his office. He was doing very important research on D.N.A. In his research, he was trying to merge D.N.A.’s of different life forms but he was not getting any success.
When he returned home Trisha had made all the legal papers ready and she said, “Let’s go.” Her tone and face showed how desperate she was. She wanted a baby girl. Trisha had already thought of a name for her. She was going to name her Shelisa. As they closed upon the orphanage Trisha’s excitement increased tenfold and Frank’s heart started beating fast.
They had made an appointment. A girl took them to a room full of babies. Trisha saw her fetch out a single girl child out of all boys. That girl was about a year old. She was scared but when Trisha took her in her arms she smiled. “My little Shelisa”, said Trisha.
She looked at Frank with her beautiful eyes. Frank understood that she was the one. He said, “We are adopting this baby. Where do I go to finish all the paperwork?” The girl took her to the room where the paperwork was to be completed. Trisha was playing with Shelisa. She took out a toy from her pocket and handed it over to Shelisa.
Shelisa took it but in reality she was playing in her thoughts. She was wondering that now she has a family who’ll take care of her and not look at her like some circus freak or a lab rat. In her thoughts she said, “I love you, mom.” Trisha heard something in her head. She heard something like I love you, mom. She turned towards Shelisa and said, “Did you say something? I must be going nuts. How is it possible for a year old girl to say something.”
Shelisa started her mind talks again. She said, “Oops… I’ll have to be a little more cautious next time.” Trisha took her to the car where Frank was waiting. Shelisa showed a hand gesture which showed that she wanted a hug from her daddy. Trisha handed her over to Frank. As soon as she came into Frank’s hand, Frank started loving her. It was like her touch did some magic on Frank. Frank said, “I love you my daughter. Let’s go home now.”…
