“Shit!”, Sarah said,”What do we do now?”
Adiya said, “Lemme think straight, the only exit is locked. There are ghosts in almost every room. What do we do now? I don’t know. Let’s go and ask the ghosts!!”
“Why are you getting so cranky?”
“Shhh!!… Did you hear that?”
Chapterwise story listing -> The Superstition
A faint voice was coming from the dining hall. It said, “Help…!” the voice kept on repeating the same word. Suddenly the voice stopped. Aditya said, “What was that?”
Something shined through Sarah’s eyes and within a blink of an eye it vanished. She smiled and said, “I think I know where to go next. Follow me sweety.”
She takes him to the stairs which lead into the basement. He said, “I don’t think it is wise to go down there.”
“Come on,” she said, “there maybe a way out from there.”
He reluctantly followed her down to the basement. The door behind them slammed shut. Aditya jumped with fear. But Sarah just grinned. She said in a weird voice, “Stay close to me… I will never let you leave…”
Aditya tried to run but Sarah got hold of him and kissed him. His head started feeling heavy and suddenly everything went dark. After a while he found himself lying on the floor in the basement and Sarah was lying beside him. Both of them were trapped in shackles. “Finally, you gained consciousness!”
“What happened?” Aditya asked too scared to know the answer.
“That voice messed up with my head. I saw darkness and then I woke up here. What about you? How did you get here?”
“After the voice stopped you, it lead me to the basement and there you kissed me and I saw darkness and then I woke up here.”
“What !! After the voice stopped I ended up here! I don’t remember kissing you or something!”
“It was not you, I think you were possessed or something. And if you ended up here after you got possessed that means I’m possessed too now. We must break out of here right away.”
“But how?”
He found that something was inscribed on the shackles. It was their name. Suddenly he remembered that he had read something about old shackles. They had some magical way of opening them. You just had to say your name.
He said his name out aloud and the shackles opened up and a few cracks came on the basement door. Sarah did the same and the rest of the door opened. Both of them rushed upstairs and found their meat suits controlled by something else. They went their to confront themselves. Sarah said, “Get the hell out of my body.”
A little girl’s voice replied from her body, “You are mine forever.” Then she giggled.
Aditya thought of something. If they possessed them then they can possess them back. He used the technique the little girl in Sarah used. He said, “That body is mine!!” and kissed himself. There was a blinding light in the room and he got his body back. Sarah did the same and both of them were back in their body.
“I think we need some sleep” she said.
Aditya knew she was right. They needed a fresh mind so they went back to their room and instantly fell asleep.
